My Sound Track

The morning our house burned down, I was immediately aware of God’s presence with us. Running out of the burning house, my two sons and I jumped into our van and backed out into the street, our dog and one of our two cats with us. The CD player of my car was playing a song that immediately grabbed my attention amidst the crazy chaos and confusion.

The night before the fire, we had watched our oldest son play baseball. It was a cold and windy night. I had driven home listening to my CD of music that was picked out for the summer Vacation Bible School at our church. I was leading the teen vocal music team for this event. One of my favorite selections was playing as we headed out into the unknown, with the burning house behind us. Trust and Obey, a beautiful down tempo song that I especially loved. As we drove down the street away from the house, I began to weep with the overwhelming realities of what was happening. These lyrics played to my heart, “Jesus, You’re watching over me, as I trust & obey. . . .and I’ll follow you where you’re leading me.”

Over the next few days, I was thankful to have that CD in my car. It was a real comfort to me. As the days progressed, God brought new selections to my attention. Another song on the same CD was Salvation is Here. When I was alone in my car, I would sing loudly in celebration. "God above all the world in motion, God above all my hopes and fears, I don’t care what the world throws at me now! It’s gonna be alright!” “I know my God saved the day, and I know His word never fails, and I know my God made a way for me.(out of the burning house) Salvation in here!” The next week our worship pastor played this song during the service and I was so choked up, I don’t think I could sing very much. God is good.

Do you doubt if God really understands you and knows how to speak to you? I hope you find out for yourself his tenderness for you, knowing just what you need to hear and how to bring the message to you. He gave me a soundtrack. Sounds just like me.
